So I can't be the only one who was suddenly met with a 'you are blocked' screen, unable to watch any youtube videos.
And I am just swinging by real quick to let you know the only workaround that I know of, and it works for now.
See I am not going to pay for premium, and they took away the 'lite' option in Denmark without warning. I actually did have 'lite' and loved it, but then *wham* it was gone, and I had the option of a very expensive premium sub or ads. And so I stopped watching youtube on my phone.
My browser ad blockers worked, and then it got kinda weird some months ago, like I couldn't hit 'share' which you'd know if you followed my video centered blogs (those playlists I have). And then I couldn't click anything, I couldn't like, comment, share or save.
And then one day, it just told me I would be blocked if I didn't disable my ad-blockers. I actually did disable them, but my computer sees youtube without ads as a virus, and my Avast freaked the fuck out, and blocked access to youtube saying it had malware, and shit. I am not even being funny, every time I clicked on youtube without ad-blocker, it just shut down the connection and said it was a 'unsecure website' like if you click a dodgy site in general.
I don't even have tv channels on my tv, it can run console games that's it. It's not hooked up to anything, and if you want to see a movie, either use the playstation or stream from your phone. And that is because I am stingy and never watches tv, I haven't cared about tv since I was pregnant with Ziggi like 29 years ago.
And also because commercials makes me unreasonably angry. I mean one thing is between programs, those are annoying. But in my program? that is a dealbreaker.
Last I went to the cinema, and saw the Alien Romulus movie, I actually timed the damn commercials, and there were more than 15 minutes of commercials before the damn trailer segment, before the movie. that is pure madness.
Anyway, I hate ads, and I hate commercials. And I swear if premium would get rid of all the ads, sure I'd pay. But thing is, it just doesn't. You still have to deal with commercials in the videos, those the creators who are on the youtube partner program agreed to in their video. And also some others, I can't remember... there are multiple threads about it on Reddit, go look.

So the thing is, the only workaround I found was to look through your feed, and find the video you want. I mean if you hover your mouse over the video it will play, so some videos you could in theory just watch from your feed.
But open it in incognito, and there some ad-blockers work.

Like this one that I use.
The problem is that you're watching it without logging in, and that means something to the creator in the algorithm. But dude I am just not going to sit through ads, and besides as I said. My computer won't let me anyways.

(translated= you can get rid of ads with youtube premium, and the youtube creators can still be paid for your subscription.)
This is the text on the blocked screen, and yes. The problem with watching without logging in, is that your click doesn't really count for the creator. I tried to make that up with being better at liking and commenting, hoping that other forms of interaction would still count.
I am not a youtube partner, I got 200 subs in 10 years, and I don't know how it actually works. But of course you'd have to open the video in the regular window where you are logged in to like and comment and stuff.
I am not alone, and I'm pretty sure the creators will take a hit from this.
A part of me have a hard time understanding how it's even legal? I mean youtube is a free service, you already have ads all over peoples dash, and the creators who are partners, they have ads too.
But to shut down a free service because you don't want adds? Well we have a tv channel here called tv2, and they have a online service too. You can sign up for with or without commercials. If you sign up to watch with commercials it's much cheaper, but it won't let you watch anything if you have adblocker, and it won't let you watch anything without being logged in. But you see... the difference here is that it's not free, it never was. You always had to pay something to watch anything on their site, or to watch their channel through your tv box-subs.
Youtube is free.
Tv2 is not.
Yet they use the same sales tactic? How is that okay? I mean I'd understand if Youtube then said 'alright, now you have to pay to watch', but they also know they'd lose many, I mean millions of casual weivers. See I am old enough to remember the youtube/vimeo battle... and much like VHS and Betamax, it was the technical inferior, but with a more efficient marketing strategy that won.
Vimeo is a nicer video option, and Betamax was better than VHS. But hardly anyone remembers them now.
Vimeo is still around btw, I have an account there even if I haven't touched it for ages. I remember I used it when my first channel was struck, and I could only upload 5 minute videos for all eternity... which was a huge dick move from Youtube's side, I mean it was back when they suddenly cracked down on music, and I had some really old left for dead videos with, I think it was Slayer or something on them. Wham... I got like 5 copyright strikes in one go, and I was out.
